Confidence This Summer

Confidence This Summer

Summer is finally here, which brings a sense of excitement and eagerness. Finally, you can leave the house without a parka, hat, scarf, gloves—and the list goes on.It’s easy to cover up if we feel insecure in the winter. But if you’re having a beach day with some friends, confidence issues might make you hesitant to go along. Not everyone feels comfortable wearing a swimsuit around others. Unfortunately, insecurities can make it difficult to enjoy the summertime.

How do you cultivate compassion for yourself and increase your confidence this summer? Don’t let your self-doubt put a shadow over the sunniest season of the year. We have a few tips that can help you practice self-love:

Step Back from Social Media

As soon as the sun is out, it seems like every account you follow posts photos of people in bikinis and swim shorts. It can be difficult not to compare yourself to others, especially if those photos are getting tons of likes and positive comments.

When you find yourself making these comparisons, try to oppose them with positive thinking. Remind yourself that every body is a swimsuit body.

The photos we see on social media aren’t an accurate representation of reality. They often have filters, edits, or other modifications that skew our perception of what a normal body looks like. Taking a break from social media can help you distance yourself from that culture.

Dress Comfortably

The pressure to show off skin in the summer might stir up old insecurities. What’s more important is wearing something that makes you feel confident.

If you don’t feel secure showing off in a bikini, you don’t have to! Dress comfortably with a one-piece or swim shorts that cover more of your skin. If you feel more at ease when you’re covered up, go for it! Wear things that make you feel good, not what’s trendy.

Address Negative Self-Talk

Many people feel insecure about stretch marks, cellulite, or birthmarks. But in reality, these features are totally normal!

Beauty isn’t synonymous with perfection. Our freckles, scars, and our unique shapes are what make each of us special. Instead of criticizing your body, try to recognize how your features make you beautiful. Body positivity can go a long way in making you feel more confident this summer.

Most of us have things about our bodies that we wish we could change. By embracing our “imperfections”, we can let go of insecurities and doubts.

Recognize that Happiness Comes from Within

Even if you’ve spent the last hour taking the perfect bikini photo for the gram, it might not give you the payoff you’re hoping for. The truth is that other people won’t make us feel more confident—that has to come from within.

Confidence doesn’t look like fitting what you think the perfect size is. It’s about accepting yourself, believing in your ability to do great things, and recognizing your own beauty.

Make the most of your summer by showing yourself kindness. When you feel confident, you can forget about your insecurities and focus on enjoying yourself.

But before you hit the beach, you might be thinking about trying body sugaring in Winnipeg. Don't hesitate to contact us to find out more!
